Fair Trade – What is it, why do we need it and how do we add value

Fair Trade puts people first. As explanatory by itself, its principles ensure the trade is fair. Fair Trade proves itself to be a solid contribution to the battle against economic crisis, climate change and economic impoverishment.

Fair Trade is a movement ensuring development of marginalised producers and workers by ensuring fair trading practices, better conditions and secured rights.

The ten principles of The World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), a global network of organisations representing the Fair Trade supply chain explains the concept through the ten principles that Fair Trade Organisations must follow in their day-to-day work and carries out monitoring to ensure these principles are upheld. Read it here.

As an organisation working alongside the concepts of Fair Trade, Fairkonnect will focus on ensuring the producer groups are more aware of the movement, how it will benefit them and also popularise the concept among mainstream shoppers.  One of our focus areas would be consulting with Fair Trade buyers and producers to enable design intervention, market expansion and connect the right buyers with right producers and vice versa.

Any time a product is bought, each transaction has the power to bring a change in the way trade is carried out. We want our clients and customers to have the option of being an agent of such permanent change.
